Wonks’ August 2025 Scratch Robotics EP condenses a sprawling twenty-track sketchbook into a taut, machine-minded five-track statement, where austere electronics pulse with unexpected rhythm and shadowed intricacy.
Scuffed atmospheres, agile electro-nic sequences
August 2025 marked arrival of a tightly coiled EP from Wonks, first conceived as a sprawling twenty-track sketchbook before label curator Zoid distilled it into a five-track declaration. Scratch Robotics reads as austere and machine-minded at first pass, yet patience reveals circuitry pulsing with agile rhythm, each sequence threading through shadowed corridors.
“Illage” fractures into snapped beats and jagged electro shards, while “In-Built” moves with a cooler glide, translucent downtempo currents softened by sparse vocal treatments that lend a subtle dub haze. Wonks thrives inside mutable zones of abstract percussion: “Intelek” settles into crumbling frameworks, balancing tension and restraint, as “Medjool” erupts through precise glitch maneuvers, servo-tight and kinetic.
Closing transmission “Injekt (2ml)” siphons code from its predecessor, reforming it into a spectral shuffle that strikes harder and cleaner. Resulting arc propels this release through scuffed atmospheres and corroded electronics, driven by mechanical cadence and deliberate motion.
