Electronic duo Autechre closed out the U.S. leg of their 2025 tour with two strikingly different New England performances — an intense, body-shaking set in Boston followed by a more exploratory, textural journey in Portsmouth, NH. Showcasing their mastery of sound design and space, the pair transformed each venue into a unique sonic environment before heading to Europe for the next phase of their tour.

Winding through New England on the final leg of their 2025 U.S. tour, Autechre performed in Boston and Portsmouth, NH. After 19 shows across the country, the duo arrived in Boston on Monday, October 27, for a stop at the Paradise Rock Club.

Opener CUBE delivered a set of industrial dub–tinged tracks to warm up the house, followed by DJ Mark Broom, who brought the noise, funk, and “junk in the trunk” with a mix ranging from braindance to hard jungle. When the lights dimmed and a low drone filled the room, the audience was ready for Autechre to unleash their full force.

Working with the club’s massive sound system, Autechre delivered a hard, unrelenting set of constantly evolving, pounding sound. For well over an hour, the duo performed in near darkness, leaving not a single micron of the club untouched or untransformed by their set.

The following night in Portsmouth, NH, revealed a different side of their music. Whereas the Boston set was intense and driving, the Portsmouth show was more of an exploration of texture and dynamics, using 3S Artspace’s sound system as an extension of their music. When the lights came up, the crowd left smiling, as though they had traveled through time and space without ever leaving the room.

We discovered this place by accident on the last tour,” said Rob Brown. “For a venue this size, it has a phenomenal sound system at 3S Artspace. It’s smaller than Boston but very powerful. We were able to exploit and explore the same set from another angle using the room itself.”

Autechre continues their tour through the U.K. and Europe in November.
