Cognition Delay is the project of Jeremy Rice and Paul Alexander whose music been presented to our audience thanks to well-noted albums published by indie labels Móatún 7 and Mahorka. With consistent releases since 2022, the duo has steadily built a name and reputation in the challenging and adventurous world of electronic IDM music, distinguished by a dystopian experimental edge.

In this new effort, welcomed by Mahorka, the two sound artists craft a vibrant, atmospheric, and hyperactive dark-synthedelic form of trance that leads the listener through a vast spectrum of experiences and human emotions — shifting from pure isolationist, somber moments to astral, lysergic projections. The ensemble is catchy, morphing a rich palette of tonal colors that are well-balanced through sound synthesis, incorporating gravitational grooves and deep space ambient melodious lines. Strangely slow-moving, soothing, shimmering ambiences—as in the cinematic “None Too Intrepid”—interact with more post-techno hypnotic leanings, as well as with the title track and the obsessive, ominous post-industrial manifestation in “Giallo,” which carries an unmistakably creepy, retro-inspired soundtrack vibe.

With its abundance of breathing, aerial synthesized lines, spacious atmosphere, evocative sequences, and subtle sound manipulations—standing at the crossroads of various innovative electronic music subgenres—this album can easily captivate fans of powerful soundscapes by Parallel Worlds, Tineidae, Solar Fields, Stratosphere, Martin Nonstatic, Wanderwelle, and others.
