A revived and impacting EP
Remastered at Antitype by Mikimo Sosumi—originally released in 2017—Von Bock Strasse 18 is described in the liner notes as “a testament to the firm friendships that were forged during my times in Mulheim, Germany, hanging out with the crew from the mercurial music label, Ana Ott.” The EP received a re-release in April 2024 on uvg212 and opens with the swirling atmospheric beauty of “Another Alice” where enticing drone tones and soundtrack motifs reach into the light and dip back into the darkness, revealing a highly textured story. The closing track, “On/Off,” modifies sound space with its micro-techno/glitch experiment in sound design, toying with our hearing along the way as the middle piece, “Close Your Eyes”—perhaps a call to action—offers brittle clicks and cuts traversing parallel trajectories with Oval and Alva Noto that could repeat for eternity. Seven years after its initial release, and the skilled sound sculptor returns with a revived and impacting EP.
