A unique, shimmering sheen is released by static pulses as ice crystals slowly melt. The four tracks on Soul Data Transfer’s eponymous debut EP for ECU are delicately woven, abstract ambient-glitch morsels that flow and transcend space and time. The title track begins with a emotive soundscape that shutters and shifts minuscule layers, tones, and atmospheric textures. Conversely, “Augmentation” moves through Autechrean landscapes where fragmented rhythmic sequences form and deform. It’s a spellbinding foray, to say the least, and one that’s not surprising as Soul Data Transfer is the moniker of Swiss-based producer Matteo Mazruku (aka Aseq).

Soft static jolts and off-center minimal beat patches sputter and coalesce while “Shell”‘s low-flying, ominous ambient swell transforms into data fields through dimly lit corridors. These structures float in deep space, competing for our attention, just as they are dense, delaminated, and drifting. The closing sonic shadows heard on “Ghost” ebb and flow with tangible electrical currents, puncturing the upper atmosphere with delicate melodic threads. In the end, a transparent and evocative exploration is the result, one that’s incredibly subtle yet explosive.
