Where earlier notable artists such as Funckarma, Funkstörung, Gescom, and Proem are touching points, Suumhow successfully shape their sound as the new benchmark connecting them together.
Reinforcing their close relationship with classic IDM and glitch-hop
Suumhow presents Extra Failed Items, noted as an expansion of Years Failed Successfully from earlier this year, deftly navigating emotive strands between gritty beats and disconnected rhythms. The outcome emphasizes the Belgian duo’s continued focus on buried and blurred melodic textures while reinforcing their close relationship with classic IDM and glitch-hop dynamics. Everything is present, “failed” but not forgotten; the compressed soundscapes and brittle bleeps are particularly noticeable on “ANDSO.ON,” when a repeated rhythm becomes prominent. Subsequently, “OUTRUNS” showcases intricate post-industrial IDM elegance, while “MANGESKEUD (Merci encore)” unveils more nostalgic mechanical structures. Suumhow’s signature reflections, despite the broken beats and glitch electronics (see “GHENTRIFIED” and “NENNI”), speak volumes about how IDM is as relevant as it has always been. Where earlier notable artists such as Funckarma, Funkstörung, Gescom, and Proem are touching points, Suumhow successfully shape their sound as the new benchmark connecting them together.
Nov 1st marked international MiniDsic day and n5MD released a MiniDisc of the album on that day as well as the single (“Outruns,”) with the full album digital version following on November 10, 2023.
