An important art form
The record starts and the wind outside kicks up and rain starts to fall after a nasty heat wave where I live. The same happens in my soul as track one, “f/1.4,” begins. Like a general breeze with echos of guitar vibrations in the distance. I am relaxed. “f/2” and “f/2.8” feel chilling, dark and cold but that faint, deep human voice, maybe a Mellotron, says to continue the journey. And I am glad I did—I love the birds and guitar in “f/8.” Such a refreshing light at the end of a dark tunnel.
“f/16” has the long tone with the three notes repeating back the original tone, and makes it move without moving. A minimal movement that creates a sense of resolve and peace, like a mantra after a journey through the dark night of the soul.
Overall, I love this release. It, like most similar art in this genre, are not for the fast paced, quick pleasure seekers of this age of 24 hour information. It’s an important art form that reminds us that we are one with the life around us. That small creatures are continuing centuries old ways of life. As I review these beautiful pieces of art, they all seem to bring me back to see just how far we humans have strayed from our original Mother, Mother Nature.
Braulio Lam is a music producer and photographer from the border region of Tijuana and San Diego, born in 1992. He has been active in the Tijuana/San Diego music scene as a guitarist and member with local bands of rock, jazz and electronic music projects since 2013. Lam define his sound as a mixture of guitar loops, synths, voices and live sound processing. He considers himself a guitarist more so than an electronic musician.
