News of the return of the Dragon… Dragon’s Eye, that is—a label whose roster’s diverse esoteric projects were, as seen here and here, very much in the catchment area of igloo‘s more experimental wing before abrupt interrupt in 2012. Turns out it was a temporary hiatus determined by curator Yann Novak—to take stock, remake and remodel, and aswespeak DER is gearing up for relaunch with 4 new CDs—by Pinkcourtesyphone, Steve Roden, Lawrence English + Stephen Vitiello, and Novak himself.
But first, for those with poor Eye sight, a quick check-up: DER’s first appearance on our radar was in 2005 when Yann Novak took up the reins, and, with a series of works of experimental ambient and minimal electronics, slowly turned it into a compelling sound art house. Through DER’s agency artists like Son of Rose/Kamran Sadeghi, Tyler Potts, Wyndel Hunt, and Mark Manning could reach a wider audience. Between 2005-2011 they put out 60 CD-R and CD releases, including works by Ælab, Celer, Robert Crouch, Corey Fuller, i8u, Lissom, Mem1, Steve Peters, and Simon Whetham, contributing substantially to building an international community of like-minded artists and listeners.
And so to now. Seeking a stronger more focused Eye—CD-only releases to give access to broader distribution unavailable for CD-R formats, Novak has set up a Kickstarter campaign to fund relaunch – receipts to pay for duplication and printing of the four CDs, marketing, and rewards, any surplus going towards further releases in 2015—Robert Crouch, Robert Curgenven, Ian Hawgood, and France Jobin in the pipeline. 2014’s set is listed below: $15 donation gets you one; $60 gets you the lot. Other goodies include some signed Pinkcourtesyphone rewards, Steve Roden rarities and out of print Yann Novak releases.
