This San Diego based electronic music enthusiast not only emerged into the scene with relative ease, he’s also recently captured the ears of Connecticut based Component Records with an upcoming CD-EP to be released this Fall. A 7″ is also in the cue running alongside n5MD’s 7ransparent7 7″ series. Distal is Portland’s debut release for Oakland, California’s n5MD Record label.
Distal manifests its geometric shapes in an (old-school) Aphex Twin’esque landscape of skittering percussion and fine-tuned ambiences. Dense layers of opaque melodies and digitally corrupted beats are molded to severe electronic rhythms that breath life into the machines he uses to accomplish this sound. As simple as it is complex, Distal is an impressive debut presenting fragments of digital distortion in a way that is unobtrusive, smooth, intense and crisp to the ear and brain. 2003 has been a musical exploration field of growth for Spencer Lytle as he comfortably rests his sound into the welcoming doors of our MD-players.
