Sometimes it’s important to let music speak for itself rather than examining the artist associated with the production. Highpoint Lowlife recordings have been on a forward moving mission to release top-quality electronic music in all its varying formations. And now here’s the latest…

This time around Marshall Watson delivers passionate electronics created by machines fulfilling their sole function. The Time Was Later Than He Expected is filled with highly emotional transmissions as featured on the opening “The Dangerous Empty.” This piece delicately weaves a symphony of melodies, vocodered moments and casually drifting percussion. “Square Wheels” has a melancholic hip-hop flavor resting ever so gently on the edges of Morr Music styled electronic-pop. Such is the case with “Early on Later Off;” an Ulrich Schnauss aesthetic simply squiggles and jingles around your heart. This leads us to “Heart of Mine, Beating.” Elementary melodies roll across punctuated beats; its playfulness and sincerity are not to be bypassed but consumed.

One of the more expressive moments can be found on the closure “I Could Tell You Everything,” and Marshall Watson sure does. This gorgeous piece of musical engineering grows into a fully functional sphere of emotion; The Time Was Later Than He Expected is a journey packed with bass-heavy entities of melody, harmonious layering and thoughtful summertime electronic listening. If electronic music hasn’t sparked your soul, then Marshal Watson’s sound definitely will.

The Time Was Later Than He Expected is out now on Highpoint Lowlife Recordings.
