Hakobune :: Obelisk (Polar Seas)

The compositional architecture of this album is mainly focused on an avalanche of guitar drone noises and clusters with slow variations into it, mixing consonances / dissonances with a convincing ability.

Polar Seas is an indie label based in Toronto, Ontario and entirely devoted to ambient music explorations, atmospheric drones and deep listening. The label welcomes here the new Hakobune’s release. Takahiro Yorifuji (aka Hakobune) is prolific sound artist coming from Kasai. Active since 2007, he published a handful of albums for well noted labels in the field of downtempo ambient music. The compositional architecture of this album is mainly focused on an avalanche of guitar drone noises and clusters with slow variations into it, mixing consonances / dissonances with a convincing ability. Sorrowful melodies in quest of thoughtfulness and peacefulness rise at the surface and embellish the sonic tapestry. Thanks to its expressive quality, this is one elegant and reflective ambient noise album that won’t leave you indifferent. Recommended to fans of Aidan Baker, Tim Hecker, Rafael Anton Irisarri’s electronic sonic bliss based around the guitar and various treatments but also to listeners of Olan Mill, Celer’s expressive drone ambient journeys, Windy & Carl’s abstract shoegazing soundscapes and Phill Niblock’s experimental microtonality.

Obelisk is available on Polar Seas.
