Enduser :: Comparing Paths (Very Friendly/Mirex, LP/CD)

(05.10.05) Just a couple of months ago I wrote on this space about a nice Enduser CD album on Ad Noiseam, called Run War, and now it’s the time for another one, Comparing Paths on Mirex (Vinyl) and Very Friendly (CD).

Run War was varied and made of many little tracks, whereas Comparing Paths is more similar to a drum’n bass album, with six or seven minutes per track. “Devil Tricked The World,” “The Return” and “End Of A Beginning” are pure jungle, ruff rugged and raw, akin to the 12″ released in recent times on Outbreak. Other tunes are more hardcore, with drilling beats and mashed up breaks, such as “Fuck Up The System,” probably the more infectious track released by the man, there’s a synth so thick it’s hard to believe and a skillful use of ragga lyrics. Even when he slows the pace, like in the title track or in “Familiar Taste Of Blood” you still hear breakcore music, focused on hard hitting drums and gloomy atmospheres.

The CD version of this album will please those who needed some of the stuff released only on vinyl, more danceable and strictly d’n’b, even if the digital medium lacks a tune, that featured lyrics by a famous star to be widely available. Enduser is very prolific at the moment but don’t be afraid, Comparing Paths is not a copycat of something already released, fans of break-based music won’t be disappointed.

Comparing Paths is out now on Very Friendly/Mirex.
