Druc Drac :: Retrofuture (Hymen)

A definitive look into nostalgic memories created by current technological tools which also successfully keeps the consciousness at ease.

François Dumeaux operates under the Druc Drac moniker and unleashes a digital release via Hymen perhaps best noted as a warm buzz of oscillators communicating together as they look back to the future. Retrofuture is described in the press-release as “…an uchronia, referring to a hypothetical time period where François Dumeaux was able to put himself in the position as a composer in his childhood, in his adolescence and in the present state at the same time.” This idea, depicted in the working title best captures where Druc Drac takes the listener.

Delivering soft pads, light synths and warm rhythmic thumps, a sort of Solvent and Lowfish charm is exposed, especially evident on “Cynar.” While a vintage electronic polish is tangled with next level sonic shapes and clicks, Retrofuture is a flashback of tranquilized pitter patter (take “Bacille” as a prime example). Synthesized experiments gone the right way, there’s a clear analog propensity exuded on this musical dozen and “Mélopée Analogue I” appears as the catalyst. Sinewaves are burnt to a crisp as ambient sheets unfold on “Analord,” however, the entire package floats away via minimal electrical debris and melodic shuffling. With an accomplished background including acousmatic music composition, Retrofuture is a definitive look into nostalgic memories created by current technological tools which also successfully keeps the consciousness at ease.
