The Other Side of Reality (The Remixes) is a must have remix collection, one that combines Huron’s original post-industrial audible strands and re-configures them into what feels more like an extended Version 2.0.
In 2013 we covered The Other Side of Reality (Raumklang) described as having “…Sharp edges, fluid rhythms, mechanical pulses, chiseled percussion and a darkened veil surround these dozen tracks that spark, reflect and ricochet in every direction.” Well, the self-released remix project continues in a similar foray, taking a few sidesteps initiated by several talented guest musicians on remix duty. The result is an audio-smorgasbord that takes Huron’s originals and views them from the other side of reality.
A function of sublime darkened electronics and proto-industrial mayhem, these remixes chisel the machined edges with a fine-tooth comb. The dualism of artistry known and (relatively) unknown is a rewarding discovery that will easily attract Igloo readers. Artists like Roel Funcken, Tineidae, Randomform, DNN, Miktek, The_Empath, and Undermathic offer their elevated slabs of reconstruction in a sonic display you’re very likely to be familiar with. Elsewhere, you’ll find fractured mechanical parts shifted around from the (relatively) unknown musicians—each displaying further re-fabrication of existing parts in a more abrasive flow. What else would you expect though? Gathering such talented soundsmiths and organizing 20-remixes is not an easy feat—kudos to Huron (aka Steffen Schröder). The Other Side of Reality (The Remixes) is a must have remix collection, one that combines Huron’s original post-industrial audible strands and re-configures them into what feels more like an extended Version 2.0.
