Certainly dance-floor approved, this sonic brain assault veers from heavily drenched dubstep outskirts to technoid bass, sparkling ambient interludes and a smattering of dirt, grit and mechanical debris.

Roel Funcken ‘September Studio Mix’

Crystallized bass-lines and manipulated low frequencies form the foundations of Roel Funcken‘s thirty-six minute jaunt through time via his September Studio Mix for igloomag.com.

Having cultivated a multi-faceted scope of work as Funckarma (with sibling, Don) for the past decade+, these two creative minds simultaneously delve into just about every electronic genre (and sub-genre), crafting unique sphere’s of rhythmic perplexity. Trying to place any sort of tag on Roel Funcken’s September Studio Mix would just take away from its alluring beauty. Certainly dance-floor approved, this sonic brain assault veers from heavily drenched dubstep outskirts to technoid bass, sparkling ambient interludes and a smattering of dirt, grit and mechanical debris. Downbeat versus upbeat, it’s all right here, tucked away in this brisk studio venture.

Roel Funcken’s Vade (debut) album, released on Ad Noiseam in 2010, featured broken beats, tormented low-end and a melding of disjointed melodies etching their own specific groove in the plethora of exp-electronics. But above all descriptors for Roel Funcken’s sound, however parallel to Funckarma’s signature it might be, rests a certain degree of personal growth, detail and potency. Evading pigeonholes and diving straight into exploratory realms, Vade stretches through hybrid electronic-dub and continues to evolve with each shattering listen.
