Otero Vargas has created an album that rewards attentive listening without demanding a prescribed interpretation. It is dark, textural, challenging, and surprisingly inviting. Beneath its fractured rhythms and unstable surfaces is an unusually thoughtful piece of electronic composition. Dissonance is a compelling listen from beginning to end and another strong statement from both Otero Vargas and Facade Electronics.
Facade Electronics presses forward with Sampler V, a twenty-four–track compilation curated by Fax that channels fractured digital forms, restrained pulse, and weathered ambience—shaped through tape manipulation, field capture, and atmospheric rhythm—into a quietly forceful survey of uncanny abstract electronics from Mexicali, Baja California.
Milwaukee-based multi-instrumentalist, composer, painter, and filmmaker Max Devereaux explores the tactile, physical potential of the turntable on Aguja. Through fragmented vinyl manipulation, layered improvisation, and sonic collage, Devereaux transforms noise and decay into structured chaos, echoing the experimental minimalism of artists like Oval and Alva Noto.
