Most ingredients are well known, but it’s the ingenuity with which they are married into one homogenous alloy that makes Anemoia not simply a standout IDM piece in terms of production proficiency and storytelling, but an important milestone in the history of modern electronic music in general and, for me, a present and future classic.

The initial EP showcases the Russians’ skill at odd blips, bleeps, and low end manipulation as well as acid breaks and pulsing electro hijinks in full gear. A stand-alone and exceptional EP, the remix compilation that follows is equally perplexing.
The album spans 24 cuts almost exclusively from Móatún 7 artists, and these were selected from over 100 entries. It must have been quite the job selecting them. It’s a beautiful collection of emotional ambient music.
The compilation has a clean, precise, and minimalist aesthetic that you would quite rightly associate with many of the better known IDM labels of the late 90s and early 2000s…
What I hear is existing simultaneously, a pattern is gathered and then begins cycling, with improvisations with how the pattern is expressed, trading solo jams within the marching machine cadence.
