Mosaic is yet another valid addition to Fennesz’s already spotless catalog. Among the many ambient records I’ve heard this year, Fennesz thankfully reminds us of what ambient music can be when it is done in an original way, rather than offering the usual pulp of clean synth pads with some string arrangements.
If you are fond of dystopian electronic coldness of Omit, Franck Riggio, Kcin, Philip Munch and some Lustmord (for the rumbling,) uncanny moody-esque textures, and eerily fixated atmospheres, you won’t be disappointed.
Just in is news of continuation of a new chapter on Nettwerk with the release of Ash, rounding off his EP trilogy, initiated with Eev (igloo-’viewed) and Aer, with its conceptual theme of a ‘life arc’ from exciting new beginnings to the darkness of dealing with life’s challenges.
