LHAM :: They Cast No Shadows (13)

They Cast No Shadows is an alluring and distinguished collection of impressionist, minimal, then complex electro-experimental rock pieces that will ravish fans of early krautrock explorations in its more new-age and warmly melodious facet.

Beautiful evanescent and detached

Lham is a challenging, innovative and retro-ish experimental electronic duet formed by two Italian artists whose reputation is fully appreciated in their respective musical niches. Among his numerous projects, Giuseppe Verticchio is best-known for the alliance he succeeded to create over time between ethno-sounding ritualism and drone-scapes in his veteran project Nimh. Bruno de Angelis (alias Mana Erg) processes in different musical fields; flickering between electro-pop and syncopated chanting rock with energetic tripped out moves. Both artists’ careers span several decades and this new opus They Cast No Shadows is the third offer under the LHAM pseudonym, also welcomed by the notorious Italian indie label Silentes, most precisely by its side project 13.

Once more the duet demonstrates great technical abilities and is capable to summon great visions of variously edged music near to cosmic synthedelica, partly pop-orientated singing pieces tinted with smooth-sinuous electronic lines and chilled-out downtempo. The generally emotional range tends to lead the listener to auratic spaces of profound peacefulness. Beautiful evanescent and detached guitar patterns come into the mix and reinforce the contemplative ensemble with sensitive and efficient expressive motifs. Whispers of melancholy covers the album as in the crystal-like and repetitive eco-spiritual mantra “Chance of Rain.” They Cast No Shadows is an alluring and distinguished collection of impressionist, minimal, then complex electro-experimental rock pieces that will ravish fans of early krautrock explorations in its more new-age and warmly melodious facet such as in Harmonia & Eno, and Roedelius’ solo works. Names as Jeff Grenke or Vidna Obmana at their most serene moments can also be evoked.
