Once more and with a nostalgic, reflective romantic flavor Vlimmer’s musical range honors the memory of leading projects in the 80s dark music and electro pop school: In the nursery, Lycia, Das Ich, L.A Düsseldorf, Faith And The Muse, Ain Soph, and early 4AD productions.
Super active artist in the neo darkwave galaxy and avid sound producer in a digital age, Alexander Leonard Donat (aka Vlimmer) offers a new EP singed on his own DIY label Blackjack Illuminist. The album is available in multi-formats (k7, digital and CDs). Vlimmer musical belonging can be clearly identifiable, challenging the borders of gothic subculture in mainstream art and music mixed with hints of groovy minimal electronics. This small collection of new tracks carries on the same musical path to Vlimmer’s past releases with one emphasize on dreary, ominous and eerily introspective minimal-synth hymns punctuated by plaintive declamatory vocals. Some tracks admit a discreet etherial shoegaze touche. My favorite track on this short EP is the utterly brooding, raven-esque and elegant retro-gothic piece “Alltagszinogen”—one very effective, catchy song with strange melodious phrases and eerie toned ambient moves.
