Bleak landscapes of dust and debris
Creating vast sound escapes and glitch-infused worlds, both Valance Drakes and Ivan Shopov exhibit their take on refined abstract electronic music and its unyielding sub-genres. The amount of microscopic audio shuffling and slow motion DSP featured on these eight sonic miniatures is enough to power a small city. Like sprawling, bleak landscapes of dust and debris, this collaboration maintains its composure from start to end. Its ability to tether elongated digital strands and sporadic field recordings offers the listener a chilled and soothing textural fabric to hold on to. Clicks and cuts moments fade into and out of focus; all the while, we can hear vintage machinery chugging away with surreal sci-fi colors. It’s a series of seriously syncopated segments joined at the hip, its fragrant ambient morsels collectively coalescing.
