Under Konstruktion :: Woes EP (Ryu)

A punishing foray into splintered experimental post-industrial fragments gone awry.

If you haven’t heard of Under Konstruktion before, Woes is a sonic avalanche from the outset that makes for a great starting point. This dark-industrial, glitch, and noise manifest comprises four tracks, the first of which is the powerful “Overlooked.” The artist doesn’t hold back in “Atychiphobia,” either. With its hard-edged electronic warfare and relentless percussion, it pierces the ground with ferocity. Finally, “Atone” offers us a break and some breathing room—kind of—its mechanical and militaristic pulse still pushes massive concrete slabs we didn’t know were even there. The closing title track smashes any preconceived notions of calm; instead, gliding through the fog with grit and collective might, signaling a soundtrack to a dark corridor we weren’t supposed to pass through. “Omission” feels almost alive with its technoid thud and slithering low-to-the-ground bass. Ultimately, Woes is a punishing foray into splintered experimental post-industrial fragments gone awry.
