Aelk Minsur :: H EP (Self Released)

It appears that one of our favorite sonic alchemists has dived into much darker waters. Noise ambient and experimental electronics consistently intermix, yet with Aelk Minsur, there’s something else stirring.

Approach with caution

It appears that one of our favorite sonic alchemists has dived into much darker waters. Noise ambient and experimental electronics consistently intermix, yet with Aelk Minsur, there’s something else stirring. Not only does the Phoenix, Arizona-based artist traverse extreme audible edges, he’s joined by Haemic Mire, and Andrew Nolan (aka Intensive Care), and features artwork by NEGATIVEMEDITATION.

All darkness aside, although it’s difficult to see in front of us, H exhausts five tracks, four relatively short, and ends with a lengthier closer. The grit and grinding electronics on “The Seats Go All the Way Back” should give anyone enough of a jolt to dive into its adjacent track “Wall to Wall” that crunches its way through roughed and textured industrial noise. This is what Aelk Minsur does so well; evaporating beats and bass, and creating otherworldly sounds and swells. “FCKMDI (feat. Haemic Mire)” defines this motion, or rather, a slow-motion illbient flavor as it trudges through the mud. “20 Years to the Day (feat. Intensive Care)” decimates all forms and functions—synth sandblasting and subdued screams drift in the background; this is ferocity at its peak. While H is full of intensity and already mind-boggling, “Initials in Ash” closes with atmospheric echoes, ambient streams, and torn synth motifs. What a serious trip this is; approach with caution.

H is available on Bandcamp.
