Fraser Rowan is an independent and interesting creative spirit whose sound production deserves to be discovered by all fans of chill and downtempo ambient music.
Droning chords covered by concise and precise repetitive patterns
Generous and eclectic musician Fraser Rowan is the founder of the dreamily beat laden minimal project Ty Lumnus. A handful of digital releases have been published by net labels over the past few years. Particularly in this new album his music draws a line between hypnagogic minimal synth and sound experimentalism. Phase Music appears to be an homage to the influential Steve Reich, one of the originators of minimal pulse techniques in modern classic music. In this regard, and for those who want to get into the innovative musical standard of Reich, l would recommend the reissue of some of his earliest pieces by Kalrecords.
Sustained elastic droning chords are covered by concise and precise repetitive patterns. This album has also a retro-ish impressionist vibe which reminds me a few works by German composer Hans-Joachim Roedelius and the oneiric intimate minimal-synth elements won’t be denied by someone like Eric Malmberg and Mort Garson. Fraser Rowan is an independent and interesting creative spirit whose sound production deserves to be discovered by all fans of chill and downtempo ambient music. Also recommended for fans of The Future Sound of London, The Orb, Puscha, Huerco.S, and Gaussian Curves for the emotional vibrations and those fond of minimal rhythmic music.
