A mysteriously evocative and nostalgic dreamlike ambient album which shows an other original and interesting facet of Giuseppe Verticchio’s compositional aptitudes.
Giuseppe Verticchio (aka Nimh) has made a solid reputation in the world of (post) industrial experimentalism with a bunch of well noted releases published on Silentes, Eibon and Rage in Eden. Structured and developed under the moniker of Nimh his musical production oscillates between abstract droning shimmer, ethno-ritual sound motifs and transcendental noises. Twist of Fate is his new born project and duet which features the presence of Daniela Gherardi on violin and various electronic effects.
The duo delivers here their first release published on the independent, underground music label and distributor GS Productions. If a few Nimh albums occasionally infused intense melodious vibes in the original sound architecture, this new project brings to the fore the melodic technique around the repetition of small phrases. However Twist of Fate is not a complete Tabula rasa of previous stylistic experiences acquired as Nimh, we can distinguish and appreciate a certain continuity in a track such as the opening theme with its densely vibrant dark droney air. The listener progressively navigates through more ethereal, fragile and remarkably dreamy atmospheric pieces built around acoustic guitar’s micro-tonal textures and processed electronic sounds. This album can be largely appreciated as a tremendous guitar ambient release but the result includes much more variety with some delicate melodious interludes which provide to the ensemble an almost minimalist glitch dimension.
“Disclosing an unexpected universe” is an enchanting and enveloping smoothly track with a subtly dark droning line and detached guitar arpeggios, revealing a powerful dreamy cinematic tendency. This is quite a puzzling piece of “sound art.” Tracks such as “Footprints in the white sand” or the closing “Returning home” represent the softer sonic facet of this musical adventure with simple and meditatively impressionistic guitar tricks, almost shoegazy and imaginatively conceived instrumental tracks.
Tales From A Parallel Universe is a mysteriously evocative and nostalgic dreamlike ambient album which shows an other original and interesting facet of Giuseppe Verticchio’s compositional aptitudes.
Tales From A Parallel Universe is available on GS Productions.
