V/A :: Tiny Portraits (Flaming Pines)

Australia based independent label Flaming Pines is back with a newly launched concept and edition about hearing space and the impact of sound mapping on the listener’s subjectivity. It is titled Tiny Portraits and is represented by a series of four beautifully hand made CDR’s. The label follows here the experience of sound sculptures, micro ambient scenes under a striking perceptual and affective angle.

The research on sound forms, field recordings and urban soundscaping textures guarantees an active listening experience, investing our consciousness, our sense of hearing and cognitive capabilities around the notion of memory, reflectivity and intuition. The music is divided in four singles designed by ZenJungle, Sound Awakener, Yuco and Siavash Amini. Siavash Amini wrote here an audio portrait populated by green field recordings, notably from bird noises covered by subtly flowing and meditatively dronescaping waves. A visceral and spiritual connection is established between a dynamic, natural sound environment and emotive instrumental sections. Yuco investigates on abstract ambient territories with kinetic sound moves and a vibrant acoustic setting, oceanic perceptual map. Zenjungles offers an ambiguous and electronic inflected free-form jazzy nightscape. A groovy and subdued ambience is brought to the fore. Sound Awakener approaches pulse-pattern minimalistic music with short motifs and electronic scintillations sustained by black noisy field recordings—a mysterious and thrilling piece.

Tiny Portraits is a fine edition which contributes to define the experience of meaning, its negotiation through sound mapping.
