All in all one expressive, esoteric, darkly moving, echoing and absorbing release with a few achingly beautiful transportive moments that will deeply your mind.
Through the years, the indie label Boring Machines knew how to reinforce its presence on the expanding Italian underground musical scene. This publisher is mostly specialized in drifting ambient music with a clear electronic edge, sometimes bordering techno music and dub / chillstep. The Star Pillow is a textured ambient guitar project formed by Paolo Monti, active since a few years now with a handful of releases for labels such as Midira, and Time Released Sound.
Welcome by Boring Machines this album carries on the project usual musical signature, surfing on sharp droning waves and micro-tonal glimmering reverbs. The e-bow spirit droney style for guitar is not something new (Phil Niblok, Aidan Baker, Saad, Expo 70, Windy & Carl) but the genius of this sound artist is to demonstrate his ability to range his sculptures from massively consonant luminescence to dissonant opacity with a sense of progression organized in subtle moves and dense layers. The pieces also deliver a surprisingly spaced-out vibe which reminds me Side B of the Cosmic Jokers and other freakout pioneers in 70s transcendental rocking odysseys. Some detached-melodiously dreary sequences for the guitar has a bluesy-melancholic tone that Loren Mazzacane Connors won’t deny.
All in all one expressive, esoteric, darkly moving, echoing and absorbing release with a few achingly beautiful transportive moments that will deeply your mind. Symphony for an Intergalactic Brotherhood is a vividly lysergic, intoxicating and wandering sound journey that is highly recommended. Can definitely compete for the best album of the year in the arcane darkness of drone-ambient music department.
Symphony for an Intergalactic Brotherhood is available on Boring Machines.
