The Isolator :: Distance

It’s always satisfying to return to a label. I covered Lockertmatik a couple of years back, writing about their JC Michigan release by Kryptic Universe. The Dresden imprint has been somewhat quiet since, two releases of darkened Techno since 2012. But a new release is on the horizon and with it new prospects.

Peculiar, insular chords introduce the EP. Brooding inverted bars make up “Waldorf Love.” Solid ground forms with “Distance.” Those bending notes are now supported by sharp 4/4 snares as a lush work of Electro parameters is carved with mechanical precision. Behind rhythmic familiarity The Isolator weaves rich harmonies, diverting melodies and developing complex soundscapes. The finale floats into the realm of outright whimsy. A vivid Gaudi style dream is dabbed out in ticking clocks for a brittle electric lullaby.

I’m not sure who’s behind The Isolator helmet, whether they are a newcomer or old hand and to tell the truth it doesn’t matter. Distance is deep and inviting, combining club elements with cerebral computer sounds for an excellent first outing.

Distance is available on Lockermatik.
