The Testube project by Jeff Danos combines noise, techno, industrial, and glitch electronic genres into a metaphorical molten soup.
Atypically captivating structures
Testube’s self-sabotage, described as dynamic and diverse, opens with the technoid fissures of “thunderchat” and its buzzing soundscape, revealing itself with a hardened exterior shell. The Testube project by Jeff Danos combines noise, techno, industrial, and glitch electronic genres into a metaphorical molten soup. “Ztag pickup (xcab)” begins with glitch-laden breaks that are slow and low-key, creating a foundation of broken and distinct rhythmic layers that we’ll easily return to. The title track then fades into faint electrical blips and bleeps, creating a relaxed sonic abstract. And Testube continues to find microscopic marvels within atypically captivating structures. The instrumental drums and tangled synths of “disappoint ed” are somber yet perplexing, while the closing track “heliopaws” transports us to a bygone era with its erratic waveforms that drift in and out of focus inside a stunning atmosphere.
