Hailing from Philadelphia, Team Shadetek’s “3.04” was recorded during a period of roughly 3 months in a series of improvised sessions by a duo consisting of Shadetek label operators ZatsOner and SOZER_SHT. The material was recorded directly to MiniDisc and later compiled on a computer into the form of this release. Shadetek is a division of the NYC based Change Agent Group.
With ambient undertones shaded by relaxed electrical debris on the introduction track entitled “Devlin”, you get a good understanding for the platform Team Shadetek work with. “Taiga” (the second cut) meanders through sharper beat-constructed melodies while a pendulum beep runs through the hypnotic yet percussive rhythms. A rolling layer of experimental tweaks squeezes its way through “Taiga” creating a generally relaxed atmospheric electronics. The third cut on Natural Selection (MD Session) called “Sufferers” follows a more Skam-based approach with very sharp beats cruising through a rough bassline.. this track eventually builds upon itself with a subtle, almost hidden bassline creating pure space in a matter of 6 minutes. The final cut, a track called “Dual” spans through a wash of crispy beats while a blanket of tiny beeps unfold within the high-pitched tones –perhaps falling into the experimental ambience field, but definitely not limited to that. The ending to this EP release a casual collage of metallic ambience and fades away quite nicely.

The overall feel of this MD Session is dark, abstract, and layered with an experimental mood that is both lounge inspired and rhythmically intact. Not quite as ear attracting as other experimental electronic acts, but one that will leave you in a pleasant and thoughtful mode.
