Bouncy, precise and multifaceted in its defused rhythm bursts, Team Doyobi delivers a unique blend of corrupted electronics that still manages to stick to wooden dance-floors and torn headphone cups.
Robotic orchestra’s fed through bass-infused video games from the 90s marks Team Doyobi‘s latest collection for the always clever minds of Skam Recordings. Each track on Digital Music Volume 1 contains some form of propulsive electrical mayhem—a direct and punchy, almost playful view of the current state of intelligent dance music is rolled out. Bouncy, precise and multifaceted in its defused rhythm bursts, Team Doyobi delivers a unique blend of corrupted electronics that still manages to stick to wooden dance-floors and torn headphone cups. The mastering behind this recording leads to a result that is robust, intact and clear—even with the onslaught of penetrating beats, bass and distortion. Highlights include the funked out bliss of “Maltazers” (reminiscent of early Kracfive days of Colongib), the two relatively short interludes of “2td_header” and “Zenthial Arches”—casual doses of sublime electrical noodling in chilled fashion—and the polished electro stabs of “Definition.” The squeaks and squelches of Digital Music Volume 1 are administered with a vibrant smile, almost coming across as a left-field excerpt from Toytronic Records’ early catalog. If Digital Music Volume 1 is the beginning of future volumes from the elusive duo, one can only expect the next level of musical innovation to be just as bright as Volume 1 adheres to an upbeat dynamic of tangled electronics and rhythmic audio bending.
Digital Music Volume 1 will be available on Skam at the end of July 2012.
