Dark-ambient soundscapes concealed beneath skeletal electronic structures

Twenty years later, Fairy Glen Appearances, which was first made available on skassette02 in 2003, is now available digitally through Skam. With this two-pack release, Luke Williams’s Tatamax outfit made an impact with its glitchy rhythms and eerie, dark-ambient soundscapes concealed beneath skeletal electronic structures in conjunction with his debut live performance at the ATP Festival two decades ago. Over the course of its fifteen minutes, Side-A unveils shape-shifting mechanical soundscapes with an ebb and flow that implodes. Side-B’s fractured field recordings are punctuated by bleeps, blistered sci-fi noise, and dismantled beatwork. Side-B also closes with sweeping technoid patterns that harken back to early Warp-era Artificial Intelligence. It’s great to hear Tatamax again, an original IDM staple from yesteryear. With his latest sound signature, Mantle of Gets, one has to wonder if the Quinoline Yellow nameplate will return from its indeterminate hiatus.

Fairy Glen Appearances (20 Year Digital Edition) is available on Skam.
