Fluid electronics and intricate rhythmic glitches
Matthieu Debliqui’s Subjex moniker dates back several years to the golden age of IDM, and was released around 2000-2001, “hidden” within a compilation that he curated for Tot-Al. It bench-marked one of his earliest recordings under this name. The EP—now available via his own Bedroom Research imprint—showcases the delivery of fluid electronics and intricate rhythmic glitches, transforming them into immersive, surreal sound-escapes. The fusion of tangled electrical waves and pummeling beats, are sublimely connected with Phoenicia, Deru, and Richard Devine-inspired audio architecture that remain timeless.
Each of the four featured slabs emit distinctive light versus dark tangents, solidifying Subjex’ lasting impact all these years later. From the fidgety groove of “Rainforest Arythmetics,” to the slick, modular rhythm of “Trigger & Forget,” through the digital haven of “Atmoswitch,” and finally, the mind-bending soundplay of “Introspectrum,” each track takes you on a unique sojourn.
