Still sculpting fractured industrial rhythms, brothers John and Paul Healy—known together as Somatic Responses—continue to call a quiet, once-mining village in southwest Wales their home. Algorythm of Hate marks John Healy’s solo venture, yet it bears the sonic ferocity synonymous with the duo’s legacy. Laced with digital vitriol and summarized in its liner note declaration—“Fuck the socials…”—the album channels a seething commentary on modern so-called networked existence, where noise, distortion, and rhythmic chaos swirls in a relentless, abrasive tempest.
The journey begins with “Zawn1.1,” a storm of corroded modular textures, scuffed percussion, and biohazardous sonics. “Sancreed” and “LlandoMet” echo the spirit of Phoenecia, riding on jagged funk pulses and vaporous spatial effects. The momentum only builds from there—tracks like “PWM-AM-BYTH,” “SomonaMore2,” and the title piece grind forward with uncompromising weight, pushing deep into the blackened bleeped-out depths of contemporary electronic aggression.
Yet, amid the density, there are flickers of space—“Internal Sabotage,” “A Failure of Imagination,” and “Randomet1” ease the tension, if only slightly, weaving fragile melody into their crumbling frameworks. “Octobers” stumbles into breakcore-infected The Panacea territory, where glitchy remnants and decaying atmospheres coalesce into a brooding landscape. The finale, “Death Angles,” drags the listener through thick, sludge-coated drill’n’bass, closing the album in a murky spiral.
