Too many pieces to dive into and examine, Sectioned v7.0 is a lot to digest in one take. Yet even with its (almost) 6-hr duration, it is easy to say that this compilation an essential selection of mind-boggling electronic music from out of this world.

A Souvenir’s “Things Get Damaged” (with Depeche Mode’s David Gahan vocals taken from “Precious”) opens yet another compilation for Section 27—the 7th in the Sectioned series. Yet it seems like only the other day that Sectioned v6.0 made an entrance with its powerful 88 tracks back in late 2016, here we have 59 pieces with just as much range, flexibility, and ferocity as the imprint continues to cultivate the multifaceted experimental electronic genre. I’m reminded of the musical cross-pollination that labels like Skam, Rephlex, and Schematic administer so well when it comes to Section 27 and their cohorts. With an ear for culling the finest abstract sound bytes from around the planet, Sectioned v7.0 is an overflowing volume with many unique chapters to unfold.

Autechre-inspired architectural sound designs are exuded by artists like Badrich, Exm, Jab[ber].wock, Myoptik, Room Of Wires, Weldroid, and Vortex Count (Mitoma version). Minimal static contortions by Alwin van der Linde, Biobazar, epitomeZero, Martin Delaney, Re-Arbeiten, and Scald (remixed by Nonima) are developed and eroded. Broken electro shapes and acid tweaked melodic breaks are etched by artists like ADJ, Carbinax, Dialed, Errorbeauty & Serge Geyzel, Hatch, Jon E Alpha, Kim Cosmic, Lenistwo, Organism, Sigma_ALgebra, Sun-Inside, and The Wee DJs. Rugged techno slabs and blistered industrial tones by Alessio Bargiacchi, Cyclea, Dissolved, Michael Barrymorph, Metalogue, My Gloomy Machine (a tribute to the late Qubrus), Veronica Green, and Z-Arc are explored. Scorched glitch contusions and abrasive electronic deconstruction comes from Admin Dada, Alzar – DrOwL, Camcussion, Datolar, Hypercube, Jfrank & XYICD, Mtch, Mutellat, Silent Strangers, and Cedric von Flugel & Nonima.

Too many pieces to dive into and examine, Sectioned v7.0 is a lot to digest in one take. Yet even with its (almost) 6-hr duration, it is easy to say that this compilation an essential selection of mind-boggling electronic music from out of this world.

Sectioned v7.0 is available on Section 27.
