Rena Jones‘ own Cartesian Binary imprint releases on a relaxed schedule where electronic bits tangle with electro, ambient and heavy percussion. For Echoes, her fifth full-length album, a more lively collaborative process took shape. While downtempo might be the immediate groove on display, classical constructs are peppered throughout in an eloquent ebb and flow. Brittle to the touch, violins balance themselves with exp-electronic subtlety and a Portishead flare of chilled dynamics is elevated in and around each entity. “Dancing With the Universe” is a classic example where effervescent Digitonal-styled melodics slowly unveil themselves as tranquilized soundtracks move about. Instrumental to the core, tracks like “Mesmerized,” “Dusk till Dawn” and “All that Ever Was” emit a bass-laden glow of enzymes similar to what Secret Frequency Crew did for Schematic Music Company on Forest Of The Echo Downs. Like an orchestra of expanding electrical tones filled with emotion, Echoes is an album of finesse and delicate waveforms for relaxed evenings.
