Synaptic audio strategies
What I hear are very simple tones and arrangements, which suggests to me that the instrumentation and demonstration of profound depths of complexity is not the objective with this new form of music from science. This is about simple sequences and synaptic patterns, and not always about complexity and amaziocity. The human brain is incredibly complex, the melody of the subconsciousness might miraculously arise out of a kind of magic. The functional repertoire of the mind is vast, enabling action, perception, and cognition. The mind is probably something more than a group of independent properties that emerge from, and probably cannot be reduced to, the brain.
The artist Oubys, our guide to the furthest regions of the micro and macrocosmos, has been exploring sounds that physically affect your synapses. I must assert that after listening, my synapses are right where I left them, and even so I find the music more interesting than ever. Oubys presents this experimental demonstration of synaptic audio strategies, here in four tracks. I imagine a musical map. Binaural beats to harness the power of the subconscious, together producing representations that are structurally constrained and robust but exhibit high capacity and are flexible. I hear some tones and some interesting atmospherics in the surrounding background. Patterns emerge.
The first track is “Field” (11:43), which begins with an electronic tone repeated. Visualize the space around a radiating body. I imagine an invisible medium that enables action between objects so that the effects of which can not always be measured. A field is a region where a battle is, or a space or range within which objects are visible from a particular viewpoint, a field is a distribution in a region of space, or it can mean working in the natural environment, rather than in a laboratory or office. I would say that a field is a setting.
A distribution in a region of space ::
A particle (or corpuscule) is a small localized object which can ultimately be described by several physical or chemical properties. A particle is pretty much any of the numerous subatomic constituents of the physical world that interact with each other. What I hear is a glowing presence, “Particle” (14:21). The least possible amount.
Force is a push or pull on an object that changes or tends to change its state of motion. “Force” (12:06), also might mean strength or energy as an attribute of physical action or movement and causes the motion of an object with mass to change its velocity. What I hear is something stronger, harsher, and more difficult compared to what has been heard here so far. Continuing into the next track, I find a number of things of the same sort gathered together or growing together; also considered to be a bunch. “Cluster” (7:16) to me sounds like shimmering tonal organisms.
Mental events can have a subjective quality. Find a peaceful place, sit in a comfortable posture and close your eyes. Empty your mind of all thoughts, while you practice breathing in and out for a few minutes. Now just sit and listen.
Oubys is the brain network alternator from Belgium, producing sounds that physically affect your synapses. His music, merging synth sequences with rhythmical patterns, explores the melody of the subconsciousness.
