Gritty and tense ambient minimalism
O C O S I (aka Paul Molyneux and Simon Smerdon) is a surreal electronic music project hailing from Iceland—actually, that’s what they want you to believe on their Bandcamp page. With hints of experimental ice-ness and creative versality in the textured drone ambient genre, the duet offered a number of digital releases in a very short period of time after a 20 year hiatus. This new release reveals intricate, thrilling and menacing cybernetic and post-human ambient(ish) excursions; following a close compositional path to their previous efforts. Frightening and abstract inflected repetitiveness punctuated by micro-noises and sustained amorphous chordal moves will let you be absorbed in an unusual bath of cinematic strangeness. Creeped-out and minimal neuronal ambient-ish exploration at its most insolated and intangible dimension. The noxious, brutal, lysergic and craft-based inflections of this release can be reminiscent to unsettling post-industrial ambient textures heard in Zoviet*france, Nocturnal Emissions, and Randy Greif; for the pioneering offerings as well as Rapoon, Omit for the placid isolationist looped evocations. Easily recommended for fans of gritty and tense ambient minimalism.
