Myoptik :: Gofunga! (Mighty Force)

With a plethora of electronic distortion and semi-coherent sound structures carefully collapsing, Myoptik doesn’t hold back on Gofunga!

Along with his own Pingdiscs, Richard Wilkes, also known by his stage name Myoptik, has released a number of works on prominent experimental electronic labels such as Móatún 7, The Centrifuge, and Law & Auder. His distinct musical techniques delve into the intricacies of fractured beats and funky rhythms. His most recent release for the persistent Mighty Force imprint, Gofunga!, showcases his talent for continuous melodic threads and extended tracks.

Within these five compositions, the talented musician creates hypnotic rhythms that kicks-off with “End of the Ride,” a 10-minute voyage that feels like it could go on for hours. Elsewhere you’ll find robotic, technoid, and vocodered pulses dominate the landscape while machines hum in unison on “Modular Knights 4″—the kind of disorienting musical array you could encounter at a carnival gone bad. “Dirtbag_BL,” an industrial abstract piece with shattered percussion and discordant noise, builds to a strong panorama of warped yet coherent blips and bleeps flowing in parallel with the sonic acrobatics of old-school Gescom. With a plethora of electronic distortion and semi-coherent sound structures carefully collapsing, Myoptik doesn’t hold back on Gofunga!—ref. “Magnifkumpoop” and the dramatic finale of “NDOR Europe Ends.”

Unpredictable yet skillfully demonstrating the artists’ employment of utterly unique sound palettes, Gofunga! comes highly recommended for fans of Plaid, Phoenecia, and Phonem.
