Comfortably combining various strands of acid music

Sven Kössler’s D•bl Stndrds is his first full length album on the excellent, Mighty Force. However, he has featured previously on several compilations. Alongside this acid-themed album, Sven is well known in the ambient world with albums on several labels and he often works with Simon Matthews. Another key figure in the current ambient scene.

Kössler expertly demonstrates his ability to comfortably combine various strands of acid music into a very coherent and enjoyable listening experience. Traditional acid house sits perfectly next to experimental acid music that’s more associated with the IDM world. Having heard Kössler’s work previously, it’s no surprise to find that this album has been beautifully produced. It sounds luxurious.

Kössler’s past incarnation as a big room DJ in Frankfurt, Germany certainly comes through in this album. He absolutely knows how to get people to move as each track has a great groove to it. The acid work is superb—there’s an awful lot of generic acid music around at the moment and perhaps, arguably. It is a genre that’s hard to stand out in due to the very parameters of the genre. Kössler manages to stand out with this album though. It’s a beauty.
