M-Paths :: Hope (Mighty Force)

This symbiosis of style, technique and discipline has resulted in a remarkably stellar album for a first outing, where subtle grooves, rich analog tones and atmospheric phrases help you engage with the music almost instantly.

Absolute class

We were only about halfway through 2022 and I thought Mighty Force had already released the album of the year with the high quality D•bl Stndrds cut by former big room DJ, Sven Kössler. However, the second half of the year only went to prove me wrong as Mark Darby smashed it with a string of exceptional album releases on CD from stand out acts that have taken us well into 2023 now. Artists such as Boxheater Jackson, the Long Range Desert Group, Kams, and now the truly slick and stylish, M-Paths, with their debut album Hope. It’s honestly hard to believe this is a debut, it’s that good

M-Paths have been friends for years, even attending the same school together. Their paths diverged musically however, with Marcus Farley working as a DJ, and multi-instrumentalist Nick Murray, who has been busy working with several bands over the years. This symbiosis of style, technique and discipline has resulted in a remarkably stellar album for a first outing, where subtle grooves, rich analog tones and atmospheric phrases help you engage with the music almost instantly. “The Connection” is a truly beautiful track. I’ve listened about six times now, and I just love the rich minimalism it exudes. Absolute class. As well as the slightly more experimental numbers, there’s also some classic dance tracks that are sure to get you moving. It’s a very intelligent, well thought out album from start to finish. Each track on the album has been put there with purpose, this much stands out a mile.

Wonderful stuff! You’d do well to keep this album in mind when considering your best of lists at the end of 2023. I’m sure I won’t forget.
