Myoptik finds solace in these peculiarly bizarre locales
Myoptik, also known as Richard Wilkes and the owner of the Ping-Discs label, is a master of his trade who has been producing avant-garde braindance sounds for a number of years. For the Móatún 7 imprint, he has unleashed a subtle and textured electronic blanket on Dreampeace and there are plenty of charges in and of itself. Combining distorted vocals, ambient layers, minimal technoid spheres, and pseudo-dub sounds into a perplexing compilation, with “Chin Polska” in the forefront.
As it blends elements of shoegaze, glitch, techno, and vocal echoes reminiscent of Syntaks that inhabit gorgeously ethereal worlds, “Dreampop” offers a gentle rise. “Dechanted Paylapse 19” is a kaleidoscope treasure trove of shapes and sounds reminiscent to Clocolan, with crackling percussion and gruff voices that alternate with ease. And it appears that Myoptik finds solace in these peculiarly bizarre locales that it’s hard to describe his sound due to its complexity and distinct appeal. While the strange 37-second final track, “emroyband,” appropriately displays the creators’ cryptic message, “Lunar Landscapes 2” brings us to unexplored ambient worlds where fizz-fuzz modular noises boil over.
