The homage to epic and neo-mythological science fiction novels from classic-era is implicitly brought up to the fore. Thus this soundtrack can be well recommended while reading visionary literature from Arthur Machen and Henry Rider Haggard where heavenly mysticism meets dark energies and horror stories.
A range of emotional colors
Fine purveyor of somber and sonic soundscapes from all over the world Eighth Tower Records is back on track and opens this year with a new compilation gathering family-like sound artists from the label. Related to compilations and after having jumped from various thematics such as abandoned gothic derelicts, occultist sciences, black art, and lovecraftian / fictional myth as well as cinematic homage to horror-slasher genre film directors such Dario Argento or Lucio Fulci, here the leading inspirational strength is focused on anticipation sci-fi imaginary escapism.
Mostly promising projects from the last wave of dark ambient music are gathered for the occasion (Kelados, The Black Monolith) but there is also a space for more classic ones such as Nerthus or Taphephobia. Easy-going spacious ambient excursions (SÍLENÍ opening track, the soothing Taphephobia’s “Extraterrestrial Superiority”) meets more perplexing exploratory electro-acoustic weirdness (Nerthus). Some moody-esque minimal synth-doom qualities are also approached by a few invited artists such as Plamen Večnosti. Each project with its proper stylistic characteristics in the ambient-related subgenres provides a range of emotional colors, from anxious feelings, to blackened-veiled mental projection and spiritual salvation. Joe Matthews’s piece of forlorn meditative etherealism and retro-futurist suddenness perfectly closes this soundscaping voyage to Music For Alien Temples and sidereal territories.

This new opus might ravish all fans of ominous droning atmospherics then darkly-softly enveloping cinematic synthscapes.
