Miss Bean :: Les Avenirs (Serendip Lab)

Les Avenirs is a strong showcase of endless possibilities that ultimately reflects the fun in dance music that can all to often be left behind in today’s environment.

A winding road of acidic bends

Catching up on some of the releases 2022 had to offer, one that should not be skipped is Marseilles-based producer Sarah Louise Barbett aka Miss Bean and their joyous release Les Avenirs, which came out in October via Serendip Lab. Melody and percussion are at the forefront as Miss Bean drives us down a winding road of acidic bends that takes a light hearted look at the often heavy drugged-out party antics blessed within the genre.

Elements of IDM and early house music come into play too that at times is reminiscent of heroes before. Les Avenirs is a strong showcase of endless possibilities that ultimately reflects the fun in dance music that can all to often be left behind in today’s environment.

For those new to Miss Bean, this is a fantastic introduction to their work. Within the very generous 16-tracks, amongst the earlier handful is the 4-track EP Business Wouman, (UNSE, 2021) too. Chaotic acid lines duck and dive around incoming bleeps and bloops, to then be crushed by electro party bass—all within rave-culture rhythms; what is not to like?!

Fans of μ-Ziq, Mr. Fingers, and Ceephax will likely take much from this release.
