Ubal is an overall brilliant release highlighting excellent programming and sequencing abilities. Highly recommended for fans of Skee Mask, Squarepusher, Clark, and Brainwaltzera.

The latest addition to the growing roster of artists on the Madrid based Analogical Force label, Mause bursts onto the scene with his first proper vinyl release entitled Ubal. Hailing from Brighton, UK, Mause brings forward five original productions pressed on gorgeous blue wax that incorporates varying styles and tempos. The opening track “THARKSITHE FM,” showcases high energy drum and bass conjoined with a strong melodic backbone. Heavily edited but controlled amen-breaks supplemented by thick squelchy basslines are featured in the second track “25-8-18,” The EP takes a breather from the audio assault with “— UBAL CODA [k]” . Chorded pads and lovely melodic elements give a sense of Mause’s background in classical piano as well as finesse with ambient composition. “FX22” (a personal favorite) begins with a longer, lush intro engulfing you with a full spectrum of frequencies, coming to full crescendo around the 4-minute mark. The final track “DAFFOFILLIC —UBALIST” is slightly less frantic, and has a heavy focus on deep synth tones with more simplistic grooves to follow. Midway through the song comes a juncture and changes from 70 bpm head nodder to a dance-able 120 bpm. Ubal is an overall brilliant release highlighting excellent programming and sequencing abilities. Highly recommended for fans of Skee Mask, Squarepusher, Clark, and Brainwaltzera.

Ubal is available on Analogical Force.
