Shimmering Moods is back with two new autumnal albums in the craft based ambient / modern classical / semi-experimental genres: Selected Piano Works by π∆ππ and Lost Trail’s The Lost Trail Orchestra. The first one introduces the listener in softly meditative and intimate piano reveries, pleasant materials but nothing really ambitious, in the continuation of so called modern classical piano stuffs by Bruno SanFilippo, Ben Woods, Library Tapes or music for films by Ludovico Einaudi. What we have here are lo-fi and minimally executed impressionist sound paintings.
The second monthly release is from the duet Lost Trail and their home-made noisy ambient poetries. Since 2011 this project has been working actively mainly producing self releases in digital format. They published two notifiable albums in 2013 for Wounded Wolf Press and Reverb Worship. This new album gives a large space to warm layers of fuzzed-out guitar drones seconded by dream-pop melodies, concrete noises and minimal patterns. The result is evocative, rich of emotional textures and noisy minimal complaints. Denny Wilkerson Corsa and Zachary Corsa are accompanied by a bunch of musician friends on various traditional instruments. Epic and thrilling cinematic instrumental music in black and white which is reminiscent to the bluesy experimental guitar laments of Loren Connors, to the classic post-rockin flavor of GodSpeed You Black Emperor and to the sonic noisy-ambient minimalism of Tim Hecker. The release includes a lot a variations between more mellow acoustic ballads (notably in the ninth piece) and more nervous fuzz guitar soundscapes, sometimes surfing on psychedelic jam territory as in the seventh piece. An original, distorted, garagey and beautifully introspective noisy ambient guitar work. Can possibly become among my personal favorites from Shimmering Moods.
