Broken bass and electronified hip-hop sounds are in full force with Lokom’s latest for EC Underground as Vor Reflex exudes funk and glitch elements torn to shreds. “No Issues” opens with Gescom-infused fractal beatwork and eerie synth screeches, fuzzy vocal samples, and a crunchy downbeat rhythm to get us into gear as “Tortue géniale” shifts and wobbles about with slippery bass and expansive echoes. Lokom’s deconstructed blips’n bleeps maneuver themselves across these five tracks as “Exit Gate” picks up the pace, its hyperkinetic drums and Squarepusher-esque flow is as intense as we’ve heard to date—braindance shapes and sounds split into hundreds of pieces. “Last Chance” slows the momentum slightly, the grit and grime still intact as flexible synths bend and contort themselves. “Zorg” takes us into acid-drenched sonic warfare; a sandblasted electro and breakcore blend that still maintains an abstract punch to the gut only to eventually break down into an emotional closure.
