The three pieces deliver an emotionally transportive, transformative, spacious, ominous, and lamenting experience for meandering string textures and slowly-evolving patterns.
A sensient and uplifting spiritual immersion
Lichon is a deep sound-art project newly formed by violin player Anisa Arslanagic and guitarist Alex H Duncan, based in North Devon District, UK. Both artists utilize their instruments in an unusual way for sparkling ambient soundscapes and sonic meditative explorations. Both sound artists are fond of sound ecology and plural opportunities to connect environmental elements with human perceptual qualities. In this regard, the sovereign nature is conceived as a living sanctuary but also a fascinating laboratory for Geophony and acoustic atmospheric patterns under a sound design scope. It also consists of a live contact, making sound installations in various atypical places receptive to a sensient and uplifting spiritual immersion in moods and tone colors.
It’s Always About Us stands at a cross between noise ambient, soothing soundscapes, and contemporary classical music with a minimalist-droning edge—check notable pioneering efforts from Oliveros’ Deep Listening and their “cathedralic” use of timbres and natural-acoustic resonances. Vibrant E-guitar chords, discreet tonal clusters, and processed found micro sounds from green field recordings interact with resonant, sustained, flowing, wondrous and heart-stirring violin lines.
The three pieces deliver an emotionally transportive, transformative, spacious, ominous, and lamenting experience for meandering string textures and slowly-evolving patterns, similar to Richard Skelton, Henrik Meierkord, Yair Elazar Glotman in collaboration with Matts Erlandsson, Rafael Anton Irrisari, and Lori Goldston in collaboration with Aidan Baker and Andrea Belfi.
Overall a lovely EP; compelling, eerie, and an aerial sound exploration provoking immediate states of intense and spiritual solemnity for an ultimate inner conversation between human finitude, the metaphysical self, and the ecological-spiritual values of soundscapes. Look forward to see what this duo has to offer next. Essential listening.
Inspired by the symbiotic relationship that forms lichen, Lichon‘s music is created with midi data collected from the environment; field recordings and the biodata of plants, fungi and lichen. These soundscapes are accompanied by mostly improvised responses on violin, viola, guitar and synthesisers.
