Gamardah Fungus :: 10 Years Compilation: Singles, Rarities, Remixes (Self Released)

This album—with its significant hybridization of musical aesthetics—can easily seduce fans of bleak ambient with a sensitive facet as well as classic drone artefacts from Stars of the Lid, Eluvium, Troum, Tim Hecker and post-rock doom from Sum of R and Orne.

A gleaming sense of sorrowing emotions with hints of vaporous spaciness

Gamardah Fungus is an original experimental music duet hailing from Ukraine and which succeeded over the years to push the frontiers of droning soundscapes with the inclusion of memorable innovative ideas, a variety of musical dialogues and nice arrangements—the whole thing served in a meticulously crafted package.

This compilation honors Gamardah Fungus’ 10th anniversary with a refined selection taken from their back catalog. I’m not completely familiar with their earlier material as I’ve discovered their original signature thanks to Hidden Vibes and Flaming Pines. With a convincing and original sense of writing, the project progressively reached a more mature, complex and engaging sounding experience of truly great facture. The chilling atmospheric sound waves are mostly focused on guitar patterns and tricks, covered and punctuated by an avalanche of micro-sounds, a sea of harsh noises, green field recordings and glitch-esque electronic effects.

This compilation beautiful sums up their stylistic approach and gleaming sense of sorrowing emotions with hints of vaporous spaciness. Sad, painful, beautifully introspective, discordant and consonant. Once more, this album—with its significant hybridization of musical aesthetics—can easily seduce fans of bleak ambient with a sensitive facet as well as classic drone artefacts from Stars of the Lid, Eluvium, Troum, Tim Hecker and post-rock doom from Sum of R and Orne.
