Johno Wells :: Gotham Child (Errorgrid)

This is an inherently rhythmic album where the speed, density, velocity and timbre of the drumming conveys most of the messages, but interspersed into the few open spaces are moody alien synth riffs.

Vast rhythmic structures are composed of layers of battling percussion

Frantic glitchy techno in a similar vein as Richard Devine—vast rhythmic structures are composed of layers of battling percussion. This is an inherently rhythmic album where the speed, density, velocity and timbre of the drumming conveys most of the messages, but interspersed into the few open spaces are moody alien synth riffs. The liner notes describe the album as “it follows the anger ridden protagonist’s dark descent into death as a detailed and elaborated storyline told in 5 distinct chapters,” but to me this isn’t a specific album of despair, instead it seems as if you’re seeing it through a scientist’s cool, distant gaze, a process of metamorphosis to be studied, not feared.
